Was the miracle rescue
of a worker from the Bangladesh clothing factory disaster a
stomach-turning hoax? That's the claim of the U.K.'s Sunday Mirror
newspaper, which quotes an unnamed factory colleague who says he walked
away from the tragedy alongside Reshma Begum, who then promptly vanished
from the hospital. The next thing he knew, Begum was being "pulled"
from the rubble in front of TV cameras, 17 days after the building
collapsed.
His name is being withheld because he is now in hiding for fear of reprisals. Other anti-government campaigners and media outlets in Bangladesh also insist the rescue was staged by authorities to combat global bad publicity around worker safety.
